Get That Diet Monkey Off Your Back - 2!

The big question at the end of the last article was whether the DIET MONKEY would loosen its grip or hold on for dear life. The answer that DIET MONKEY is alive and well and hasnt loosen its grip at all. In fact I think for some it has moved in and taken up residency.

It has been amazing to see that all the other participants in the Biggest Losers club, method of losing weight involved starving themselves, when that didnt work because they ended up gorging themselves, they tried pills and shakes, then for some reason that didnt work so they went back to starving themselves againwhich didnt work. So the cycle was never ending, hence that DIET MONKEY taking up residency.

All the participants fell into the 3 reasons why we fail at dieting category being: fanatical dieting, emotional eating or conditioning. The fanatical dieters jumped from one diet to another, the emotional eaters had no idea why they were eating continuously other than they THOUGHT they were hungry and those who fell into the conditioning pattern, did what they knew starving themselves, because that is what they have always done (regardless that it never worked in the past).

Our Biggest Losers challenge ended and as a writer Ive gained a lot of subject matter that would fill at least 2 or 3 books on the fact that DIETS DONT WORK. Oh by the wayI WAS THE BIGGEST LOSER. I of course, had an unfair advantage because I used a program I created, called Gain Back Your Life Weight Loss Program. This program has helped others lose weight and keep it off. It doesnt involve diets or dieting as such, it reveals the truth about exercise, helps you to supercharge your metabolism, stopping those cravings and more.

We have started a Biggest Losers II and this time I have shared my knowledge with the previous participants. Lets see if we can finally shake that diet monkey of their backs.

Refinishing A Hardwood Floor

Want to bring your hardwood floors back to their former beauty, but dont have the money? Then read on for some tips on how you can refinish the floor yourself.

If you have the time and dont mind doing the work, then refinishing your floors yourself is a great option but before starting out, its not a bad idea to get an estimate from a professional so you can compare the cost of doing it yourself to what they would charge. Youll get quite a shock at the amount that is charged. It may cost over $1000 to have just 1 room done. You could carpet over it for less, but doesnt carpeting over beautiful hardwood floors seem, well, wrong?

It is actually rather easy to refinish a wood floor if you pay attention to what you are doing. To sand the floor, you need a drum sander and possibly a belt sander which can be rented at your neighborhood Home Depot or hardware store. They can help you figure out which machines you need to rent, what kind of sand paper you should buy and also can help with the type and amount of stain and finish for the floor. You might also want to get some dust masks and plastic to section the room off from the rest of the house. Fine particles of dust will get everywhere even if you section off the room, but you may be able to minimize the impact on the rest of the house.

The most important part of refinishing your floors is learning how to control the sander. The key to running the sander is to make sure it keeps moving at all times, otherwise they are simple to use, although a bit hard on the ears. If you stop in 1 spot, you will probably get a big gouge in your floor. Equate it to using an iron on your clothes if you stop in 1 spot too long youll burn a hole. The sander is similar since it creates a lot of heat, keeping it in 1 spot can burn or dent your floor.

You do need to be careful with the sander as it is self propelled. When you first start it up, make sure you hold on firmly. Dont be afraid of the machine but make sure you maintain complete control. Relax, after a few spins, it may even start to seem like fun.

After the old finish is removed, you need to apply the stain and new finish. Think of this as the same as doing your nails first you remove the old finish, then basecoat, color and topcoat. Sometimes you dont want color on your nails so you skip that part. In your floor you might also skip that part (the stain) but you still want to use a finish to protect the floor.

When selecting a finish you can pick from an oil based or polyurethane (water based) finish. When selecting an oil based finish you will need to decide if you want a satin, gloss or semi gloss finish. Its probably best for you to use satin on a hardwood floor as it will help hide any flaws in the wood and is much more pleasing then a bright shine Using oil based finish is better for wood floors as it casts a warm amber glow. Water based, on the other had dries quicker and resists yellowing.

No matter which you choose, you must let each coat dry before putting down the next coat. Think back to the nail polish analogy! Follow the manufacturers instructions on the finish before you occupy the room again. Usually you can move your furniture back in after about 24 hours.

As you can see, the task of refinishing your floors need not be overwhelming. Think of it as giving your room a manicure. Take it one step at a time and use care in the process and you can have a great looking floor and save yourself almost $1000 to boot!

The Game of Golf

The Beginning

The origin of golf is open to debate as to being Chinese, Dutch or Scottish. However, modern golf is considered to be a Scottish invention, as the game was mentioned in two 15th century laws prohibiting the playing of the game of gowf. Every game of golf is based on playing a number of holes in a given order. Lots of people think that golf is the most boring televised sport there is, but I think it's because they don't really understand everything that goes into it. The good news is golf is very popular.

The Game

golf is one of the few ball games that does not use a fixed, standardised playing field or area; defined in the Rules of golf as "playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules. Every game of golf is based on playing a number of holes in a given order. The game is won by the party that wins more holes than the other. When the game is tied after the predetermined number of holes have been played, it may be continued until one side takes a one-hole lead, and thereupon immediately wins by one hole. The 2 main formulas used in the game are stroke play (also known as brutto or medal) and match play. The stroke play formula is an individual way of playing the game as you are competing against the par of the course. The match play formula is a game during which two players play against each other.

A players handicap determines the quality of their game, making a player with a lower handicap better than one with a higher handicap. However, in practice, motivated and ambitious high handicap players strive to lower their handicaps and thus the current official one they show on their cards might not be their real current level, which consequently might put them in a favourable position when playing 'net' formula games.

Summary

golf is played professionally in many different countries. golf is clearly a game that is accessible to all people (provided you can pay the green fees). golf is a mind game more than anything else. Filled with inspirational stories about the great players, great courses and great tournaments, golf IS A GAME OF CONFIDENCE encourages golfers, no matter what their level, to reach new heights in their games and their lives. golf is the worlds most rewarding sport.
